Nova Scotia's government is a Parliamentary Democracy. Nova Scotia's House of Assembly consists of fifty-two members. In Nova Scotia, they have elected three minority governments in the last decade. The most recent election of June 9, 2009, elected 31 new democrats, 11 liberals, and 10 Progressive Conservatives resulting in Nova Scotia's first New Democratic government, and first majority group in almost a decade. Nova Scotia's economy is traditionally a Resource-based economy. The rise of Nova Scotia to America was by the ready availability of natural resources, especially the fish stocks off the Scotian shelf. Due to strong small businesses, Nova Scotia has become one of the fastest growing economies in Canada. Mining especially of gypsum, and salt is also a big sector. Since 1999, Offshore oil, and gas drilling has become an increasing and important part of the economy. Nova Scotia's defense and aerospace sector generates approximately $500 million in revenues and contributes about 1.5 billion to the provincial economy annually. Nova Scotia has the fourth largest film industry in Canada, producing over 100 productions yearly, more than half of which are products of international film and television producers. Recently the video game industry increased from developers such as HB Studios and Silverback Productions.
